Ingredients - Tryptophan
Tryptophan is an amino acid needed to create serotonin and melatonin, two molecules important for sleep regulation. Serotonin is responsible for our feelings of happiness, energy, and positivity while melatonin helps us wind down and relax for bed. Melatonin uses serotonin to synthesize itself, and serotonin needs a good night’s rest to boost itself in the morning. Neither of these can take action to regulate our cycles without the use of Tryptophan, which is also needed for nourishment of the liver and immune system.
Tryptophan is typically attained in the diet, also bringing the gut microbiome into play. The enteric nervous system (ENS) of the gut regulates hormones and neurotransmitters, with up to 90% of serotonin being produced in the gut. This is why keeping the body alkaline and gut flora healthy is so important for the HPA axis in our brains, which controls our hormones and stress response. The HPA axis then releases serotonin and melatonin, and it is crucial for these to release at the appropriate times and concentrations. For those looking to improve gut flora status, restful sleep, and hormone balance Tryptophan is a wonderful solution to help get things on track.
Tryptophan also benefits regulation of the liver, immune system, and many other physiological processes. We need a healthy immune system and healthy liver function to fully break down the Tryptophan we take in that in turn nourishes these systems. As a closed-loop system such as this, once Tryptophan is low/sleep is weak it is hard to get back on track. Bioavailable Tryptophan in a blend such as this is helpful for those who may be eating right and getting to bed at a good time, with lights off (melatonin needs dark to be produced, one of many reasons to get away from screens near bedtime) but are still struggling with falling asleep, staying asleep, and waking up rested.
Tryptophan is found in Cymbiotika’s Rumi Herbal Sleep Tonic to support healthy production of serotonin and melatonin, restoring the body’s natural deep sleep and the process needed to wake up refreshed. Our goal is to replenish the body and restore the natural cycle of sleep, the most important factor contributing to overall health. Our Rumi formula works to help the body relax, balance the nutrients of the brain, and support a natural sleep cycle without sedation.
